A couple in Mount Adams, Ohio wanted to transform their front room into something special—a cozy parlor designed for conversation rather than TV watching.
With a larger living room elsewhere in the home, this space could be intimate and moody. The challenge was making it functional as the main entry (needing hooks and storage) while creating the sophisticated, conversation-centered atmosphere they craved. We designed a moody modern parlor that serves as both a welcoming entry and an elegant gathering space.
The room's large windows brought abundant natural light, giving us permission to go deep and dark with paint and wallpaper. We chose a wallpaper with a golden gilded effect—sophisticated and elevated, perfect for a parlor.
The dark tones create intimacy without feeling heavy, and the metallic accents catch the light beautifully throughout the day. We integrated storage seamlessly so it doesn't interrupt the room's refined aesthetic.
This parlor does exactly what the couple hoped—it provides a beautiful first impression for guests while creating an intimate space that invites people to sit, talk, and linger.
